Following a post on the asylum .......

the suggestion was that a small quanity of bentonite placed in a tin with a ground lead can replicate the effects of the acoustic revive RGC-24 ....
I was intrugued by this .....
so a little reasearch showed that clumping cat litter is mostly bentonite a quick trip to tesco's purchased 8 L of clay based clumping cat litter for the princely sum of £1.99. I also picked up a a large clip top sandwich box ....
once home I found a suitable length of equipment wire [2m] drilled a small hole 1mm dia in the upper side of the box threaded the wire so that 0.5m was inside it. I tied a knot to prevent the cable pulling through. The wire was stripped back so that 200mm of exposed silver plated copper could be spiraled in the box.
The cat litter was then poured in to fill the box 3/4 full ...then this was weted to make a thicksotropic slurry about 2 pints of water. The lid was attached ....the wire hooked to the ground post of the preamp....I sat back expecting to be underwhelmed.
The first thing I noted ......I've got some low level hum with the pre set to 75% its audible ....this seemed to now be not so much a random hum more a sine wave at a particular freq.....?? [very much mains related by the sound].
So to play some music through my £30 speakers .....wow the first note was much cleaner [....this of course is relative ]....
The effect after listening to my evaluation tracks was that its like getting a better ic so not a night and day chalk and cheese effect but still pretty significant imo.
if anyone wants to share the remaining 6L of cat litter pm me !
To sum it up ....this seems to be a simple tweak that costs little and has [in my system..mains regime] an appreciable effect on the sound.
So why not give it a try !
