Kill to get Crimson... Mark Knopfler
Tropidelico... The Quantic Soul Orchestra
These are the best two vinyl albums I bought during 2008. Their production is superb and the vinyl quality is amazing. It's a true pleasure to listen to either.

... if there's two recommendations, I'll take the plunge too

I started this thread because I think it could be interesting for those who want to buy a new LP knowing it's at least well recordered and mastered .. while obviously the music taste could be different ..

Mr Devil rates Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow on the black stuff, I have this on CD and think the production is superb, I will take the plunge based on this recommendation as I think its a really great album with terrific dynamics. A worthy Mercury winner, great music and great lyrics - now there's a change!.

Sure. I have BVSC already, and some solo albums by the various artists, just not the live album.

I just bought (Amazon.co.uk) the LPs box set David Gilmour Live in Gdansk .. and since it costs 101£ shipped to Italy I'm crossing my fingers it is well recorded and mastered...
Anyone here already owns this LPs box set?

bought the Buena Vista Social Club live at Carnegie Hall following posting here and it sounds excellent (I'm halfway through)! for jazz lovers, a good news is that ECM label will be back in vinyl after 15 years. although news of 2009, but some of my best buys of 2008 are of their back catalogue (Hilliard Ensemble, Garbarek, Arvo Pärt, AEOC). i was also very happy with Joanne Newsom's albums (both old and new on vinyl) and John Coltrane's Atlantic boxset of Rhino.

Doesn't anyone buy new vinyl anymore or just boring old audiophile stuff and their third copy of "A Love Supreme"...

There are so many new pop/rock/alternative releases on vinyl, there isn't enough money each month to buy them all. The one downside is that most new LP releases here are almost $29.99 each.

I got Mobile Fidelity's "Folk Singer" album by Muddy Waters. Stunning recording and mastering, but he's made better music. It's not bad, but it ain't his best.

You think you've got problems - by the time the mint first press stuff has been creamed off, the B stock scabby rejects get sent over to this side of the pond and we pay £29.99 for them...
But I liked my Mudcrutch 2xLP, Keb Mo, Joe Bonamassa and Joanna Newsome purchases. Most of the little knowns I bought were on CD.

The LPs box set David Gilmour Live in Gdansk has arrived .. wow! Amazon is very fast in delivery
Well I just listened the first disk of five and only the side 1 .. the quality is good .. though not exceptional .. while the music inside is divine

Just bought the new Killers Album on Vinyl. Sounds superb. There are loads of new shiny black disks around at the moment

Ella and Louis re-issued by Speakers Corner. I'm an old head banger who's come over all 1950's recently for some reason (maybe it's The Change) and I heard a track from this on the radio and decided I had to get the album. It's a suberb collection of songs with a great backing band (Osca Petersen, Buddy Rich, Ray Brown) with of course the inimitable Louis and the divine liquid gold that is Ella's voice.
