My newest addition to the fold, GNP Valkyries are a little flabby in bass, and whilst waiting for my Michell Tenderfeet to be delivered , i've improvised.
John West Tuna chunks in Brine under the left and Sunflower Oil under the right.
Personally i think the sunflower oil may slow the bass down a bit :-)

Well, I've always found the tuna tins always sound best if the writing is the right way up and all the labels are aligned.

You might also try giving the speakers a slight fin-in.

You'll find that sunflower oil is just snake oil. Brine delivers a better tune(a).

Try some 'gill' scott-heron or codplay, stay well clear of whalesong!

listen to the Suzanne Vega classic 'marlin-a on the wall' (its about Marlin-a Dietrich you know!)

Then of course you have some early Marillion - what was the lead singers name again?

I don't understand, I think they look great in a chunky kind of way. A good substitute for ordinary speakers pikes. :D

When you've finished with the tuna cans you could always hammerite them grey and sell them as oil/piscene anti resonance suspension pods, some twonk would have them! :D

(speaker pikes - love it!)

For the sheer orchestral weight the empty Tuna Tins has the
gravitas to make this the HIFI deal pound for pound of all time
Must be used with Tom Evans Audio Design
And you know what cable. Noel W.

Ok...

But is that a hi-mass, spiked stand in the back ground, pure carbon?

And what do some of you (other) "twonks" have at home , eh?

;)

you can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish !

I suspect that the long awaited mitchel tender feet will be no better than the cans of tuna ....

a cheap alternative would be to cut donuts a sit the speakers on these I prefere jam but I'm told custard works well .

seriously ..cut donuts of the fatest pipe insulation foam 4"? about 2" thick and sit the speakers on three or four of these ...if the speakers are really heavy cut lengths of pipe[the same width as the speakers] an then sit he speakers on two peices one at the front and one at the back.

I've found that not coupling to the floor made a huge difference to the performance of my speakers ....
this is a very cheap tweak in terms of hifi ...if it works for you !

It's an original Max Townshend Seismic Sink 4 rack stand , made for me by Max in 1990 or so, a prototype.

Zanesh: Thanks for the suggestion, sadly i've already paid for the spikes.
I was in contact with the original designer of the Valkyries, he's now got a HiFi shop in Pasadena , California, and he suggested spiking them, said there were designed to be spiked, three Mod Squad "rug toes". (1.5" aluminum cones) , to use his exact words.

yeah, that would be great for listening to Bob marley...

"wi' jammin', wi' jamin, I hope you like jam in too!" :)
