    Hello all,
I'm brand new to this forum and also to the world of Hifi.
Any advice will be much appreciated so please if you have anything to say, feel free to share your thoughts with me.

I'm quite on a budget so I decided to go "second-hand way".
    I've just bought B&W 603 s3 along with Rotel RC-06 preamp.

Now I'm planning to buy some amplifier, depend on the deal, I'm thinking of either Rotel RB-06 or Rotel RB-1072.

Just for your info, I live in a flat (not in a house) so I won't be able to play the music really loud.

My main dilemma comes with CD-Player for this set-up.
I was pretty much decided for Rotel CD Player though yesterday I came along to CA 640C v2 player. Before I bought my rotel preamp I was deciding whether I'll go for NAD or Rotel. After reading many forums I've decided to go for Rotel. In one of the forums I read that it's not good to combine this 2 brands. So if you decide to go for Rotel, then it's better having Rotel preamp+amp+cd player (the same applies for NAD). So now I'm really wondering what's better combination. Either rather to stay in Rotel line (once I decided to go that way) or to go for CA 640C v2 player.

As I'm planning to buy 1072 as second-hand stuff, if I don't find a good deal, I might go for Rotel's lower end CD-Player so please help me to decide on this combination which one would be better:

    1. Rotel RCD-1072 vs. CA Azur 640C v2
    2. Rotel RCD-1070 vs. CA Azur 640C v2 or
    3. Rotel RCD-06 vs. CA Azur 640C v2

Btw. I've noticed that CA 640C v2 doesn't have HDCD as all above mentioned Rotels have. Is it a big disadvantage having in mind that there're not so many HDCD format CDs on the market?

Thank you very much for any help.

Not heard the Rotel, but I can assure you that the 640C V2 is superb and not going to be beat, though it could be equaled I suppose.

Thank you very much Tenson for you input, it's much appreciated.

Is there anybody else who would like to have his/her say?
Has anybody heard 640C V2 coupled with rotel and bowers?

    thank you

Had a 640C/2 and it's a stonkingly good player. Well built and the VFM can't be faulted at £250.

Now have the 840C and TBH I'm not sure it sounds any better, though it does have an excellent DAC and digital inputs which is why I jumped from the 640.

A 640C v3 with a digital input should have most other manufacturers scurrying to their bunkers - so some on Cambridge..... you know what the V3 640 needs :)

    Thank you very much Rob.
What set-up did you play 640C/2 with?
Do you think it will be same good for my set-up?

I used it with a Cambridge 840A amp and several speakers including large Impulse horns, Quad electrostatics and small Spendors.

The players are neutral with no particular character so will work fine in any system including yours.

    regards,

Time to put the cat amongst the pigeons!
Having had a Rotel RCD 02 a while back, I sold it on and bought a player 3 times its cost, I dont think it was as good!
I know we are talking about the 1072 here, but the guy I sold my 02 to, went on to buy a 1072, and was very pleased with it, and theres also the synergy thing to take into account, you have one piece of Rotel kit, Id suggest you partner it from the same brand.

I had a rotel rcd 02 partnered with a rotel ra-04 - i found the rotel cdp very detailed but very dry and could only listen to it for short periods without getting fatigued or losing interest (it sparked my interest in vinyl which imo sounds much better, i.e. involving and interesting). The 1072 has a good reputation try listening to them both?
