What is it with these cables that so intriuges us. Tone control? Neutral link? Synergy? What?

The idea to me that any wire of any kind no matter how good it is is a compromise, and will always lose something. Its about trying to find (for a reasonable sum of money for me) the one that loses the least. That is surely the only goal in trying different cables?

If its for aesthetics or some kind of hi-fi snobbery, then they are being bought for the wrong reasons and a rethink of priorities is in order methinks :)

just a note to one and all.. I don't think any mod has the heart for another cable battle, so please be nice or the thread will go in the bin.

    Dave,
Just thought I'd ask since it is one of the most talked about items in our kits. Not trying to start a cable debate.
There has to be some type of lure that makes cables popular. Just curious thats all.

    Hi Rollo,

For me (excuse me for possibly repeating myself) its the enduring memory of what pete (zanashes) plat alloy cables did to my system........certain woodwind instruments in particular.

    IME of course.

Judging by this rude comment, it seems that the advice of the moderator has unfortunately not been influential.

As I have illustrated before, more than one 'blind' demo has indicated that folk can notice differences with cables. That we are talking about proof is doubtful, but if folk believe they hear changes then fine; if they believe these changes to be improvements, ok...

Qu: many believe that changing e.g. an amplifier or a turntable makes a difference - why not a cable? Part of the "lure" of cables is that it's nice to find an item easy to swap, cheap (maybe!), and contentious...;)

They're easy to smuggle into a system without the S.O. noticing.

well if as it states your audio memory is only 4 seconds good then ABX are worthless anyway, much better to take notes and compare the notes, or simplypickthe one you like most, at least our pleasure memory is more than 4 seconds long.

that said 99% of cables are just oil.

Well … apart from what I have already submitted in threads, you won't get a response from me, SM. You may assume that this is because I am unable to continue the 'debate' - this would be incorrect. I find, over the time I have been a member of the ZG Forum, that many of your contributions have been irritating to me and I shall not involve myself with them.

(Presuming that the Mods let me remain) I shall enjoy continuing to contribute, as politely as possible hoping it is useful.

I really can't help it if pointing out the truth irritates you Keith.

I think I am allowed to point out that there is no verifiable evidence to support any of the outlandish claims made for these products. At the moment we have a situation where the mods are allowing one **** to poke fun at others whilst being protected from jibes regarding divining rods and spiritual vable dressing. If they acted with more strength things would be a lot more polite over here.
