Ch4: Great Climate Change Swindle

well i'm a climber, mountain biker, kitesurfer and paraglider, and apart from the obvious risks to paragliding, i still love them...

The prog came across to me as a huge chunk of irresponsible, polemic scaremongering using very carefully selected images and ideas spliced with commentary from experts which appeared to, but didn't actually, prove the polemic scaremongering.

The program did hit on one important point though. Try telling the poor countries in Africa not to use the massive coal and oil reserves. To me its laughable 'eat today have electricity reduce the depth rate increase life expectancy' or do what the western countries want and carry on the same

Did anyone read the article in the Sunday Times magazine?

Another news story with some amazing sea level rise predictions.

I understand that the major mechanism driving sea level rises is not the melting of the ice caps, but the thermal expansion of the sea as it gets warmer. I thought the thermal "inertia" of the sea would mean that effect takes a long time to actually happen.

The Times article mentions 20 metre rises at one stage (I think that's what it said...I had lost interest by then).

I really hate what the media are doing with this whole issue.

My mate is a Kitesurf instructor and also flies Best Kites (the kite and board in that pix).

I prefer land based kite activities and if anyone is interested I have a parakart and some pretty hot powerkites up for grabs at the mo.

i feelslightly like i've hijacked this thread, so apologies for that.

the board in the pick looks like a Best Pro, but it's not, it'sone of next years boards in 'drag'.

and re the shoulders comment, most riders stay hooked in unless performing tricks that require them to unhook, the harness takes all of the load.

No worries, not sure how we went from Climate Change to kitesurfing though.

Reminds me of when I was back in Oz and the first murmurs about global warming where hitting the press. One news report consisted of them interviewing keen snow skiers with an impending sense of doom regarding the possible receeding snowfields on the mountains.....they seemed to miss the "bigger" picture..:D
