Cheap Electrical->Optical Digital Converter?

Quick question ...

Any ideas how I can either a) modify my Marantz CD player, to turn its coaxial electrical digital out into an optical TOS style out ... or b) find a cheap converter - to convert from electrical to optical?

Both my CD players have an electrical digital out ... and my minidisk only has optical in.

I'm not afraid to open up a CD player - and in a way, would prefer to do this as a) it'd work out cheaper and b) would be the tidiest solution. Is it as simple as the pulse triggering an LED? or - are there additional electronics to 'encode' the digital signal ?

Anyone?

scroll down and youll find a few under format convertions,olny problem is finding a suitable optical socket.
theres also ready made unit avaliable from maplins,code no QN17T for £15

Its lifted from a sony manual, and runs on a 3.5v supply.

there was a convertor from someone called 'digimate' which was about £45 and was optical to coaxial or vice versa... thats all i can remember- good luck!
