If you have not seen this yet get it on DVD.

I think its one of the best films I have seen, and I don't say this likely.

Really great use of film, music and sound. A fantastic combination coupled with a great storyline.

I never had some many emotions in a film, I don't know if its just because I have a young child or what, but anyway a great watch.

I did see a little bit about this on tv and thought it looked good, but forgot about it, as usual , thanks for the advice, have ordered it from play.

I do think the storyline has it's weaknesses, but still an excellent film. The best yet from from Clive Owen.

did you not like him in Closer? i thought his retort to Julia Roberts was one of the best one liners in film.

I dont know why there are no babies any more - but these storks sure taste good!

this is without doubt the single worst film i have seen for a long time ... the acting was like a school drama ...the plot was flimsy to say the least what exactly was it about ...yeah no kids WHY ..... fucking awful .... there was one saving grace and that was a scene near the end where he had to find the refugee and child in the building and it looked like it was filmed in one spectacular shot ... now that was clever ...atherwise forget it ....

Just finished watching it, really good. Thanks for the tip Gary. Sound mixing/recording is really interesting in parts. I like BRITISH FILMS. As for batman, I think the people in the film don't know why women are infertile, the plot is simple and contiguous and would you look at that, I wrote something without swearing.

Batman, I am really surprised you could not see the genius in how this whole film was shot, but meh, your loss.

Its also based on a very well respected book.

Sexy Beast was on the other night. I hate gangster flicks because I think they glamourise what is a very nasty occupation. However I have to say this is an excellent film, and Ben Kingsley is simply amazing. Definitely a bafta/oscar winning performance (did he win one?)

On the other hand, I've only ever found Clive Owen wooden and two-dimensional as an actor. Even with a superb script like Closer's, his performance left me cold.

Ohhh, natalie portman stripping....drool....

I also saw Children of Men for the first time last week and was very pleasantly surprised. Despite the plot or premise holes (or at least the stuff that was left unexplained) I was really quite moved by it, and Owen was great - I think he was in every single scene (though I haven't checked) and pulled off the transition from cynic to self scarifice really well. And I liked the kind of almost documentary style it had. And it was different. Required some suspension of disbelief though I guess...

But this thread shows how tastes vary - I thought Closer really sucked (in spite of Natalie Portman): overblown, pretentious nonsense imho, and that scene where Owen and Law have the big confrontation in his office was laughable...

Anyway I'd add my recommendation to CoM - nice to see a SciFi film that engenders some thinking and feeling and doesn't rely on FX and a big daft crash bang wallop plot.
