Issac I would let you loose on my wheels any day :D

I think my list is partly due to that its got 81k and virtualy all the parts are original. Most people would have not touched any of the above, but as soon as a side wall starts to crack I replace it, the springs can only be due to the the fact I drive purely in the city over some of the worst roads. Where I live has lots of very very busy narrow edwardian streets so you can imagine the quality of the road services.

If that was 700 motorway miles I doubt I would have had to do have of that. Got 500 miles next week so if it goes without incident I probably have a good car :)

Just trying to find the money for those springs now. I doubt the quality of the £200 garage would have been that good, if they were decent springs he would have made a point of it. The springs I got for my rears are very decent Swedish ones and they are one of Saab's biggest supliers, they were £25 each and they are not some cheap chineese clones. The guarentee to exceed the quality of OEM springs.

It'll lose several thousand pounds of its value the minute you drive it away from the showroom!

It depends what the car is. A £6k car will probably loose £500 but here is the catch the waiting list for some of these cars is now upto 10 weeks so that also helps them keep the used value. I would keep a £6000 car for at least four years anyway.

What would not do is spend £15k on a Focus and sell it a year later that is just silly.

See, I buy the 5 year old cars people sell on, because they're usually perfectly reliable, decent cars, and can be run for another 5 years - at far less cost.

A £6k car will lose £500 over what time period?

An industry average is that cars loose between 50% and 65% of their value in the first 3 years. So can be as much as 80% and some may come in less than 50%.

The lease projections on the future value of some cars I've been evaluating recently certainly don't suggest any firming up of values due to longer lead times.
One car I looked at with a 14 wk lead time has higher projected depreciation than the other car with a 8wk lead time.

If you are talking about a new car being worth 75% of it's value after 3 years, depreciating only £500 per year, I think that is very optimistic.

Dev - you are quite right, I should have perhaps suggested he sit down first and I could have broken it more softly. lol.
