Comparing Optical toslink to coax which is bette?

Hi all!

I'm running a Beresford dac between my sony sacd and Myryad pre-amp and would like to dredge out as much from my source as is possible.

Recognising that optical connection could sound different from a coax would anyone suggest one is superior to the other?

Glass seems to have superiority over plastic in the optical? I'm favouring the diy ebay traders rather than Chord ixos etc - any suggestions?

Same too with coax the missing link cryo highly regarded - any diy creations come close?

When I had my dpa transport - DAC set up there was an audable difference - the coax with a good cable was a maybe a little more dynamic and detailed, but I swapped back and forth a few times and eventually settled for the optical. However it will depend on the DAC.
 
Save yourself £90 go for the Missing link Darkstar kit for £32.
I got the Cryo as an xmas present and found it phasey and false in comparison to its cheaper sibling-we got a refund tho' -they're nice people to deal with.
 
it depends on the implementation. there is no hard and fast rule. either could be flawed.
 
there's a nice digital interconnect in the classifieds...

When I was reading around about the beresford, the impression I got was that the majority of users preferred the coax over the optical. Of course, I've not actually heard the optical so it's all hearsay!

Well thats the ticket LISTEN to BOTH. With the Beresford any true 75 Ohm coaxial will be fine. Canare offers true 75 Ohm cables for little money as well as Malpin. Happy listening.
