I have decided i want to remove the crossovers from my old Tannoy 611 dual concentrics. I would like to upgrade (or possibly keep the originals and build a new set) the crossover but dont want to spend megabucks.

I havent yet checked out the crossover but i know it crosses over at 400hz and 2.5khz. Based on the insides of a different sixes model i expect it to utilise basic polypropylene caps, resistors and unknown inductor. Perhaps a small value bypass on the existing caps and an inductor change (im looking for better controlled bass so im guessing this is the best target) Can anyone recommend a decent source for good value polyproplyenes? (or even a place where i can find m-caps for say 1.50 a piece? :))

I'd bite the bullet and get some M-caps if I were you.

The speakers are worth it.

Alas, dont think i can run to hundreds of dollars for caps :) - might as well buy new speakers! Although there seems to be introductory pricing on their new OIMP types which might be attainable if i need larger values (dont know until i open them up).

Out of interest, has any of you guys tried the Siemans MKV caps? these got rave reviews on diyaudio when used in speakers or for any signal coupling, they seem fairly hard to find now though but are really cheap if you can find them
