currently selling my indigo rca to go balanced . thinking of

coherant connoisseur xlr [£275]

virtual dynamics nite 2 [£525]

vdh `the orchid` [which a dealer has recommended] [£250]

kimber select 1130 [£400

Chord indigo xlr [very rare ar reasonable price in xlr

any advice as it is difficult to demo and I am a bit perplexed.

Missing Link Cryo Dark Art - better than any of those listed and inexpensive

a £10 xlr will sound better than whatever it was you had, don't get sucked in with branded cables, get something made from decent pro cable for about £40.

Quite. I wouldn't personally pay anywhere near the amount you suggest, and can on the basis of experience recommend a much more reasonable VFM pair made by one of our forum members Zanash.

Missing link will do a balanced cable at the lower end in the form of the Alaqeia. I use it in single ended form, and its a fab bit of wire for the relatively low cost. The termination to balanced costs basically the same so should be available for about £80

Higher up the range, i was advised by Mark at missing link that the basic Link Cryo (not the ref model) terminated balanced could sound quite close to the top end of their lineup, once again for a great deal less than the full blown cryo.

thanks guys, I have just ordered a missing link digital but I compared the indigo to quite a few cables and it was definately better{imho] so i would like to reproduce this. Perhaps zanash could advise.

I demoed the VD David IC's, loved the Bass response (and the rest of it!), but found it lacked in soundstage, the Nite had the soundstage but lacked a little of David's bass, and once I had heard it did not want to lose it. The Master had both, God only knows how they could manufacture a cable to do a bit of this, or a bit of that, and then a lot of both:confused:

The Master digi blew my Chord Signature Coax out of the water. It was a mistake to try it as I have no cash in the hifi pot, oops!

Mind you having demoed a basic IC from Zanash, the Platalloy thingy will be on my list to demo when the cash appears from somewhere ;)

Sorry to intrude like this, but the right choice would be
Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference II, one hell of interconnect cable

brca , yes agree that az cables are excellent and beat mauch of the competition.
rob , thanks for the suggestion ,
I am going to demo some vd nite2 as effem is very keen on them and I listen very carefully to guys who make cables such as effem and zanash. still keen on coherant 3d if anyone feels they want to move up to a 4d!

Anyway, I have heard from many sources, that there is no difference between RCA and XLR cables 1 m long max,
What do you think about that?

There is a definite volume difference between XLR and phono connections at any length. Whether one or the other is better depends largely on the two pieces of equipment being connected. Between my DAC64 and a Chord electronics amp I found XLR to have a definite edge, but with other amps I have found that the XLR output of the DAC can slightly overdrive the input stage of some amps (because even for XLR it is higher than other sources) and cause the sound to harden somewhat. Therefore, XLR is not necessarily going to give you a better performance.

Chord Electronics use Chord Company cables when developing their products. I'd suggest stretching to the best Chord Co interconnect you feel it necessary to splash out for and leaving it at that.

furyous, unfortunately i was using a chord indigo rca which is their top interconnect. signiture is not made in xlr so i would have to go to an anthem. what you say re xlr and rca I would agree with though.
robholt.. i have bought a proel and will be comparing it to a vd cable!
