anyone tried one of these have any experience with them? a std 2 version. improvement on my cd player? (cdp ze570)

If you're not too bothered with the hi-fi niceities, then they are a good bet. Lots of drive, propulsive bass, with plenty of verve. If you like the presentation when you hear it, and find the Sony a bit meek and mild and not very interesting, then definately have a go. Is it Hi-Fi? Not in it's truest sense, but they sure are fun. If you listen to a lot of chamber music or baroque, then don't bother.

Don't pay too much, £70 tops for a good s/h one.

Cheers

The optical will be ok. Co-ax is better sure, even with the most run of the mill cables (not even ours ;) ), but the optical will do fine, don't worry.

Cheers

its actually very good, a little bright, but detailed with it like few others.
Designed by John Westlake of pink triangle fame, so circuitry is really good, made of course in china, but build pretty good, components not bad, analog devices opamps in output.

just noticed you have an a400, this can err on the bright and brash if driven to hard, so could be taking in the wrong direction, but can' t go wrong for the cash....

well i was going to spend around 250 on a new cd player, but can always try the DAC. if it doesn't sound much or any better then i can always sell it.
thx for the info

just thinking now, if i paired one of these with a pioneer 565 dvd player would it be any good for playing std cd's? the reason being i was thinking about getting the pioneer anyway for sacd and dvd a, but if this would make the pioneer better than my sony i would be very interetsed.
thx
matthew
