I am a Mechanical Engineer, with a little knowledge of electronics, but certainly not to the extent that some of you on here.

After chatting with T (3D Sonics) I am quite up for having a go at making my own pair of mono blocks to sit between the MFA and my Kef Reference 2's.

My biggest problem is 'Where on Gods earth do I start???'

I have had a browse of the Noteworthy Audio site and seen their Stoetkit amps, I have also googled Susan Parker, Velleman and a few others, and looked on the sticky part in theis sub forum.

However I was wondering is there a national Destroy It Yourself Hi Fi show/exhibition or even club that I could go along, browse a few things before selecting my design and attempt to 'Destroy It Myself!'

Internet is all very well, and call me old fashioned, but I would still like to browse things in person.

Any help much appreciated.

Have you tried Mapletree Audio Design (MAD) or Diy Hifi Supply? I know these two companies sell kit monoblock tube designs. From what I've read, MAD are mean't to be excellent, while Diy Hifi Supply are also very good - although the stock tubes aren't that hot. But they can be easily changed.

At the risk of stating the obvious, why not start at the begining?

By that I mean, start off with something simple to get you up to speed and then attempt what you actually want to land up with.

A pair of Gainclone monoblocks is a fairly easy learning curve, even if you don't use a kit. May I humbly suggest you have a look at http://www.decdun.me.uk for some more 'get you started' information! ;)

PS It would be worth checking if the GCs will drive your KEFs OK before you start.
