Anyone with experience of these - do they make a difference, if they do why aren't all turntables designed with them???

I'm sure that they work for some people on some turntables. I used to use one way back in the 80's on a Mitchel Focus 1 and at the time I thought that it worked. I believe that if clamps were that good they would be included with the turntable. I worry about extra weights as this would increase the pressure on the bearing.

Clamps/weights work on some decks and ruin others.
IMO they need to be integral to the design. For example the Michell decks use the clamp to press the vinyl down onto the concave platter which itself has a similar mechanical imedance to the vinyl - it works well.

Put a clamp on my Rega P9 or an LP12 and you kill it.

I have a clamp on mine ( a home made jobbie, comprising of 50% michell clamp and 50% ebay special, 600gms).

Seems to tighten things up and definitely reduces background noise, and great at sorting the warps on some records.
