Don't site a power amp immediately below a turntable: good advice?

To what extent is a cartridge likely to pick up interference from, say a power amp's transformer being close to it and how close is close?

Just another in the 'is it true, is it a myth or is it just blown out of proportion' things.
 
I'd say simply that if you can hear hum induced from the amplifier you need to move it, or the TT.

Most power amps use toroidal transformers and these don't radiate appreciable field unless massive. Metal screening on the amp and phono stage also helps.
A good reason to avoid acrylic or other non metalic encloses - certainly for phono stages.
