    Hi Guys,

I wondered if anyone had ever come across this preamp design, these kits or had any views on the design in general.

    Designers Notes:

    The Kit

Its of interest mainly because of the tone controls (adjustable turnovers as well as boost and cut) and the rather interesting looking phono stage claimed to be RIAA accurate to within 0.05% ... I would be interested in any views as to how straightforward it might be to modify the MC stage for different loadings and whether this could this be adjustable by a front panel switch (ditto for capacitance for MM and maybe gain as well)?

There are some rather ropey pics of a build here:

The plan would be for it to control a WAD Kat88 power amp running Yamaha NS1000Ms. I have an old Sansui amp with a rather nice case and am tempted to make a new front panel and use the case for a nice retro look.

Possibly would consider the new WD Pre as an alternative, but would need a cunning plan as to how to get some tone controls in there (I have a lot of ropey sounding recordings and whilst decently recorded stuff definitely doesn't need them, I have found them useful for this).

    All the best

    T

PS. I know this is Doug Self, arch Objectivist. But don't really want this to become another skirmish in the Subjectivist/Objectivist wars ta.

PPS. also cross posted to Wig Wam and WD Forums
