Have been bidding on ebay forthe signature model as I have an MC cartridge. Final price was £520. Is there cheaper aboout?

£520 was a good price. Seen them go for more and very occasionally a bit less. My advice is to find a MM version and use an external stepup transformer - much better than in-built trannies in the EAR sig. Better still if you can find one is a Paul Hymes valve phono stage.

Good advice from Lark, though I think hymes should read hynes. Another very worthwhile alternative would be the puresound p10.

I agree with above ,Pure sound with a good step up such as Ear Head,Carver Mc10,Ortofon,Audio innovations or Audio note worth looking for Second Hand. The p10 has design input from Guy Sargent who worked at Audio Innovations about 10 years ago.

Its probably worth mentioning that Guy is bringing out his own step-up very soon, it will also have variable loading.
