My 'Effects' tab doesn't have a 'Cleartype' option.

It does however have 'Smooth edges of screen fonts'. If you have that selected, try turning it off.

Are you sure it doesnt have it or are you just being pedantic? EDIT:Have you got XP? The option is only available there?

This is how I envisaged his problem looking, related to the clear type anti-aliasing. Of course I could be way off the mark here...

Nice one Paul about "ClearType". I just tried it and got the same "out of focus" effect that Markus is seeing. I have an LCD monitor and "Standard" is far better. Can't really see the point of ClearType

Michael.

I must admit I use an LCD at work, and I really like the effect cleartype brings to it. I even use it on my CRT monitor, as I like the way it gets rid of the blocky text. I have noticed the blurriness on small text, and thats why I thought this was the cause, however, I feel it is a price worth paying IMO.

Odd, since Cleartype was developed to aid the legibility of fonts on LCD and laptop displays. Try the tuner app http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/1.htm to get the settings right for your specific monitor. Mind you it probably won't make a blind bit of difference knowing Microsoft :)

Cleartweak is much better for adjusting your Cleartype settings, it allows far more flexibility IMO.

At work I have Windows 2000. Sorry ;)

I use XP at home though and I use an LCD and I have Cleartype turned on and it seems to work just fine.

I just used that and have got a better result. Still not sure I like it though but I'll give it a try for the next few days.

Michael.

Loads of good advice, and thanks for that. A few things to remember, though: I wouldn't have posted this if I the blurring had been there from the outset, I would have thought Michael was the artistic type ;) . Until this morning, I had no problems at all with blurring.

It can't be about any settings on my computer because a) I didn't change anything and b) a change I'd have made would affect everything and not just Zerogain and Naim, I suppose.

I'm using XP pro and a TFT monitor.

I'm currently away from home, in Munich, and won't be back at my own computer until Friday. Using a friend's computer now, everything's normal.

Still weird.

if possible try using a different monitor - if that still bad, then try a different graphics card......
