Very tempted by the Bournemouth date. Anybody else? :)

i could do birmingham or london.

not really into old skool twiddly guitar anymore, but it would be good laugh, and bring back some 80s memories. :)

anyone else?

Chris

LOL @ Robbo!

The Birmingham date would have been a possibility for me too, but alas I have a wedding to go to on that date... not my own though I hasten to add. ;)

P.S. I could do London too, possibly.

Oh - that'll be the wedding of Steve then? Why the FUDGE did he decide to have it on the Glastonbury weekend!?!?!

I'm too skint to afford too many more gigs right now. The Dropkick Murphies on Friday were ACE though!

What happened to Eric Johnson,

I wouldn't have thught Robert Fripp would be a ble to compete on the fret gymnastics stakes, might be a nice contrast though.

Hi greeny,

Not sure why Johnson isn't on this tour TBH.

Maybe it's really the Satriani and Vai show, and they personally hand pick a 3rd G for each tour?

Not really heard much Fripp before so can't comment too much on his style/technique.

:)

Fripp is an amazing guitarist but not a 'widly widly' soloist. His style 'Frippertronics' uses multiple delays and feedback loops to create sounds that range from bass roaring powerchords to almost ultrasonic screams and everything in between.
I'm definately going to one of the concerts probably RAH

HenryT, obvious choice but the best to get you started, King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King.

Obviously dragging the bottom of the barrel, fripp intrinsically a stunted goat on speed, well at least the bars open when he's on

Ian, that album scarred me for life :( My physics teacher forced me to listen to the drivel during detention back in 79 total hand cranker that bar steward has a lot to answer for :D

...jumping slightly to defence of Fripp - I have to say that one of the most influencial albums of all my life - Scary Monsters & Super Creeps (Bowie) featured Fripp doing the mad thing on guitar and that 1980/81 Frippertronics period was groundbreaking. Regards G3 - I do urge folks who have not seen Vai in live mode to see him - irrespective of who he has as guest 3rd guitarist. Have seen Vai (either with his own band or G3) many times now and never grow tired of him - I always take his 7th Song or Passion & Warefare albums along with me when demoing new equipment - it always raises an eyebrow in what is normally a fairly low-brow and snooty staffed hifi emporium :) .

Yeah, there's a couple of tracks off of Vai's Passioan and Warfare album that I like to use to dem kit with too. :MILD: As it happens, I took my copy of P&W to the Bristol Hi-Fi Show last year and requested track 7 to be put on when I was in the Tact room, just as a little change from the more pedestrain stuff they were playing which was obviously showing off the kit's strengths but could we have something a bit liviler and upbeat guys please! The track lasted all of 30 seconds before it got changed over (only about 20 seconds shorter than the rest of track excerpts they played in that room though it has to be said ;) ). Still, I'd made up my mind in less than 30 seconds luckily, which hadn't changed since the last time I'd heard the kit. :p

Just been brought to my attention that another G3 live album has released on CD just recently. This, the 2003 line up features Satriani, Vai and (Yngwie) Malmsteen:

Just been playing it this evening, but not really too sure what to make of it. The original G3 album I enjoy playing a lot, but this one's a bit of mixed bag. Malmsteen can certainly go on a bit, an out and out speed merchant, some say technique but no soul. The original G3 album I reckon had a lot more of the good time rock'n'roll feel to it, this one is a bit more of head bang and sometimes tedious twiddlings which go on for too long fest. Maybe it'll grow on me after a few more plays...
