After the demise of my 2 'pet' dealers I am now a bit buggered when it comes to finding a dealer who:

1 - Will arrange a home dem.
2 - Will take me seriously even though I can't describe the sound I'm after in the same way as HiFi+ or Stereophile or whichever.
3 - Won't fob me off because I underestimated the price of a particular bit of kit.
4 - Won't treat me like something they found on their shoe becuase I only want to spend about £1000 (which is what happened yesterday and turned me into "angry of London").
5 - (preferably) does 2nd hand kit and / or p/ex.
6 - Is within easy travelling distance of Northampton.

Anyone know of any?

Thanks

Definitive Audio (http://www.definitiveaudio.co.uk/) are an hour or so from you. I've been dealing with them for years and can't recommend them highly enough. Great to deal with, passionate about music, and an after-sales service that will knock your socks off.

No snobbery and no elitism - they do seriously high-end gear, but there's also some excellent stuff at lower prices for peasants like me, and I've never been treated with anything other than friendliness and courtesy there. Great people and a truly impressive dedication to getting you the sound you want.

Having said all that, if that £1000 is for a complete system, you'll find them outside your budget. If it's for one component, you're laughing.

Oh yes - they do lots of secondhand kit, as well.

yes ...there good

also john kirk in beeston

there were several dealers in peterbrough to

audionote in Aylesbury
definitive audio as mentioned, Notts.
midland audio exchange (a little further) near b/ham.

if that £1000 is for a complete system... as mentioned above - all dealers above would be per component.

£1000 for complete system - Richer Sounds.

Hi seeker uk

Firstly John Roberts of Midland audio exchange is a really nice guy(i have had dealings with him, bought a Sony scdes777 sacd player from him a few years ago). So i would at the very least give him a call.

Secondly who were the 2 dealers that have gone in your area ?

The dealers were KJWest One / HiFi Trading Station in Peterborough and Universiy Audio, Cambridge (although I think they went a looong time ago).

To all - thanks for your help so far.

To answer one of the common Qs, it's £1000 for one component.

Just to add my voice to Definitive Audio. Had one dealing with these guys in the past and a nicer experience you could not have asked for.

Trading Station has consolidated at KJWest one in London, but hopes to look for suitable premises in Stamford, presumably when the buisiness side of life picks up. Analogue Seduction are in Peterborough as well (home based). Zouch Audio is worth a visit too (shop). AudioLincs is in Grantham, but I've no experience with them.

Oh yes - AudioLincs. I bought a MF TVC Mk1 from them and then traded it is for a Mk2 at a very fair price. Also recommended - very nice gent and his wife running the place, I doubt you'd have anything but a good experience here too.

Castle Sound and Vision in Nottingham have all the usuals like Naim and Linn etc.

I have been to quite a few of those mentioned, but my favourite is Zouch Audio in Ashby de la Zouch

The Leicester Hi-Fi Company are a nice friendly bunch although I've only used them for accessories. They've got a fairly wide range of stock and also some interesting retro stuff.

Cymbiosis in Leicester are fairly sniffy and will probably want to examine your wallet first.

I've contacted Divine Audio in Market Harborough (they're nearest) they do home dems so I'll give them a go first.

Again, thx to all who answered my plea. :)

I was going to suggest them. A great little shop and the head honcho Tim is a top guy. Let us know how you get on.
