    Hi James,

The DS systems have saved their bacon. I wonder how much of this is due to Ivor taking the reins after his illness.

Is GT a neighbour of yours?

    Hi,

Yes he lives just up the road from me. I believe the DS products were designed and engineered by GT, together with a Canadian chap called Keith (surname escapes me). I play poker with them every month.

    Hi,

Interesting. He seems to have hit onto a good thing. My local dealer has done some good busiiness with the DS stuff.

    Not tempted yourself?

The DS is a good product, but slightly expensive, I think. I've heard the top of the line model at Gilad's place a few times. The Linn speakers aren't helpful, but it seemed to be better than the CD12, but then so is my Naim CDS2.

I'm waiting for the technology to mature, competitors to appear, and prices to perhaps come down a little. I'm also slightly interested in the Naim (or equivalent) DAC, but there's no real rush.

    Hi,

I think that's the key. The price. I have seen and heard some of the Logictech/Squeezebox stuff which is cheaper and easier to use. It's very promising.

    May dabble one day.

    Hi Rob,

It is interesting and good that they are doing well. There are a few companies doing ok in Hifi. Your company, Rob, seems to be doing well. You got another good review in Hifi World.

Companies are doing trying to grab a bigger piece of the pie. There is still plenty of money to be made from hifi.

    Hi Dean,

    Thanks but that's Simon's doing - I'm just the willing helper :)

Lots of overseas interest though, particularly Japan which is good.

Good for them, but I wish they'd stop trotting out that drivel about "studio quality" recordings. Completely meaningless.

If the recording was made at 24/96, and they make it available at 24/96. where does meaningless come in?

    "studio recording" ...meaningful.

"quality recording" ... meaningful (up to a point).

    "studio quality recording" ... blurbspeak.

Of curse it could just be that they are charging £2500 for a dc motor and smps and £1000 for a Squeezbox in a nice case with no display?

    Hi Simon,

That has alot to do with it. They have a big enough customer base to buy their wares.
