If you've got this far.......

This is not a thread for those who have an opinion ...but for those who have actually used a cd lathe.

Has anyone used one ?

WadiaMeister has one. I saw his in action combined with light box and auric.

Cannot say individual benefit but the combination of the 3 was a good improvement.

Don't think so (he definately didn't sell the lightboxes) but he may be able to source them.

The unit is a Nespa pro, and we do retail both

There's a pro version? Well, that's obviously the one to go for. Buying the (presumably) cheaper non-pro version is a sure route to buyers remorse and wondering what could have been.

That is true... ;)

Anyway, I dont want to have to decide wich setting to use, saved 200 euros, and Nespa did built its reputation on the #1...

I had a cd lathe on loan for a few weeks and found the results on some cds astounding. However this was by no means a universal improvement on every disk. I never heard a detrimental effect on any of the cds I treated, just that some to me did not seem to be affected.

Positive effects were, greater depth, ease and flow to the music, more analogue if I dare use that term.

Equipment used was Resolution Audio Opus 21, Elecrocompaniet pre-pwr and Tannoy SRM10b monitors.

I've taken up an offer to have a disc done ...........I've a spare so I can compare the two......

WM.....thanks will contact you soooon!

This may not be completely relevant, but,

Would using a lathe to improve the CD help clock accuracy or transport speed or jitter in any way ?

If the CD is not a perfect circle would this cause more vibration, leading to errors or jitter and laser focusing or whatever ?

I was wondering about PPB speed errors as I have noticed some CD's seem to have different PPB errors when used with the Genesis Digital Lense, IE one reading can be Zero error another 1 and another -4 etc, could this be caused by imperfect discs via print, weight or imperfect edges/circle ?

Some of the performance increases described remind me of what one hears with items like the Theta TLC and other jitter devices ?

Well it's nice to see the CD lathe causing a bit of a stir on here. It certainly convinces most people it's worth purchasing even my Mrs could tell a difference.
However for some reason unknown to myself the benefits don't seem as pronounced with naim transports.
The nespa is also a great little device that compliments the cdlathe.

thanks for the responces...

I've taken up an offer for a cd to be "lathed" and waiting its return

I'll give you my two peneth worth when it returns.....

not hear a bad word yet from an owner.

Has anyone replaced the cutting bit ?

Tony at Coherent treated 4 cds for me when I visited him last week - the nespa, lathe and AI altogether.

Even heard a big difference when I returned home and listened to the albums, a lot of the digital glare had gone from them and I was able to really crank the volume up without the sound getting painful.

I am trying to work out how I can afford these 'toys'.

Well thanks to larkrise......

I now have a lathed cd [d2],

first I played the uncut disc [d1] that used to sound clearly better as it had been treated with cdflux and greened edges.

comparing the two discs d1 now sounds heavy and muddled as if playing through treacle. d2 has much more delicate feel to the music its lighter and faster[?] you just want to tap your foot along to it. d2 has instraments set apart from each other in there own air , not bunch up overlaying each other. I could go on but ....

So am I getting a lathe ...thats a bit of a no brainer !
