Hangover

In my experience of being on plannet earth for 22 years the best cure for hangovers is not to drink too much in the first place.

I always chocolate milk shake helps, but then visits to the toilet increase.

I rememember the last time I had a hangover I must have been sick about 30 times.

I normaly never drink enough to get hangovers but if the night has no plan we can end up in the pub for 5 hours before going into the club, so by the time I have left the club I have had 10 pints and the next day is spent constantly being sick.

I think you can get so drunk that the break stopping you drink too much fails and you keep drinking more and more, its not until you're feeling physicaly ill you stop. This has only happened to be about three times, once in Manchester, once in Dublin and once in Amsterdam. It happened in Edinburgh too, but I should have done my research on Tennants first (i.e its not weak lager!)

Luckily it never seems to happen in London as the beer is the same in Manchester so I know what I am drinking.

Sensible reply: Drinking ots of water, and a fairly small meal (beans on toast or a sandwich) always makes me feel better...

Silly reply based around what I did on Thursday: Get up and carry on drinking, and a fried breakfast. Seemed to take away Wednesdays hangover nicely, but I felt like I was going to die on Friday morning :o

Erm judging by that reply you must be a student. Bloody students. For me the worst thing about hangovers is not feeling like you're about to die but the fact nobody has any sympathy, at least if you have an operation people slave over you for days.

Fresh orange juice and slices of toast work.

Eating pasta the night before helps absorb the booze, but means you need to drink more for the same effect.

Apparently an Ibuprofen before going out stops the headache, but I found it made me ill in the morning.

Water water water. Some stuff called Resolve helps (IMHO) if you know it's going to be bad & are still cogent enough to remember to take it (& can keep it down).
Hair of the dog ALWAYS works...probably the best CURE rather than preventative...

water, orange / grapefruit juice washing down liberal quantities of asprin / ibuprofen / paracetamol / prescription painkillers (depending upon availability and severity of hangover) and a fry up. this used to sort me right out. i also used to swear by making my last drink of the night a cointreau but this failed me later on in life.
now thanks to dr atkins alchohol is no longer part of my diet so i don;t have to worry about hangovers. i can just point and laugh at all the pissed loons.
cheers

the only wisdom that comes with age is the realisation that you must drink water after drinking alcohol.

there are four stages associated with a hangover:

Stage 1: before you start drinking
- avoid an empty stomach

Stage 2: while you are drinking
- pace yourself, by secretly slowing intake (the occasional half, or missed round)

Stage 3: before you go to sleep/bed
- drink lots and lots of water, much more than you want to

Stage 3a: waking up, or not going to sleep properly
- you might need to take a piss, but the real non-sleep is creeping dehydration, causing headache and over-sensitivity (to light/noise/etc)

Stage 4: the morning after
- water can make the head hurt even more but sip the stuff, and get some vitamins inside you
- in extremis, just throw up

a great cure for first hangovers by someone young is warm milk with added whiskey: it is so vile that the lesson not to get pissed, or at least stages 1 to 3, gets registered.

Some good advice there, I find if you pace yourself you shouldn't get drunk enough to get drunk, because the brain tells you to stop drinking before you are drunk, its when you start with stuff like shots you can get drunk quickly and you are too drunk to know that you have had too much, this the only reason I get hangovers. I do try and avoid shots and vokda but young people will be yoing people - peer preasure and all that, I know I shouldn't do it, most the time I don't and just drink a half in protest.

Water is always good, its just a shame when you're drunk you don't realise that.

At least a pint of water and some painkillers BEFORE going to bed, Full fat coke and paracetemol in the morning (caffeine helps the paracetamol work harder) vomiting also helps, I find orange juice a bit acidic and tends to sour an upset stomach, you need sugar salt and water, thats why coke or irn bru works well.

full meal before you go out
drink/water/drink/water/drink etc while you're out
water/panadol before you go to bed
sex while you're in bed (or...)
water after sex and when you wake up
full english later that morning
water for the rest of the day

Where does sex fit into this equation?

Lucozade Sport is supposed to replenish a lot of the stuff your body uses up when breaking down the alcohol, dunno how true that is, but I've tried it and it certainly does no harm.

Water is the important thing really. Plenty of it. Try and eat something too... beans on toast is a good suggestion. The headaches are mainly caused by lack of water IME.

I rarely get bad hangovers any more, and I drink enough to get EXTREMELY drunk almost every time I go out... so much so in fact, I've earned myself a fine off the police this weekend for my antics :o

drink a pint of milk before you go out if you want, as a preventative measure.

A big greasy fry up allways seems to help, if you can stomach it.

Lucozade sport, alka seltza/resolve and lots of water................

Sometimes i take i alka seltza before bed with lots of water, to help settle the stomach

Arent eggs supposed to help you stomach??

What did you do? I am guessing either one of the following

1) You urinated in the street

2) You were singing in a haze of a drunken hour.

3) You had an argument about headphones with a chav

4) You were just being a geordie :D

Sorry, I am sure I have done things I could have been arrested for when I have been drunk, mainly singing very loud in the streets at 3:00am.

MORE BEER ,lots of drugs then BEER,works pretty well for me o and a few hours of hard physicak work with some drugs washed down with beer, add some lucoxade orange a few cornish pastys and a liter of bitter lemon and wot hangover

No 1.... but also with a bit of no 4, which was probably the nail in the coffin ;)

I hate that, one thing I hate in Manchester is there is no public toilets, its not a problem comming out of clubs because I go when I leave and the buses are very regular so it takes less than 30 minutes to get home. The problem is early evening drinking, it can be a good 15 minute walk to the bus station form where the bars are and I really need the toilet, McDonalds and Burger King etc close them all early.

There needs to be more public toilets in cities at night. I only realy ever go into the city centre for clubbing, I just go to the bars and pubs in my local area now, its much easier.

Same with Newcastle mate.... maybe its a conspiracy to get money outta people ;)

The only public toilet I can think of anywhere near, you'd quite honestly be taking your life in your hands using it late at night :(
