Spent too much money on a new amp which has now become two amps. She who must be obeyed is not amused by the two spaghetti junctions taking over the living room, one at the computer end and the other at the HiFi (and her TV) end. A possible solution that Im toying with is using bricks Tasteful of course ( four door stops on top, on at each corner then a pine shelf, bricks and stops on top then another shelf, three shelves max. Just hope I dont bump into it while playing favourite vinyl!!

Thanks

Checked out the web page - Hope I can find the parts in town. Ill have a look tomorrow - looks so simple - such an elegant solution.
Thanks Again

:) :MILD: :) :MILD: :)

Got the parts and built it. The stainless steel threaded rods were expensive though and I made the shelves from pine. Looks good and has certainly tidies up the living room. She who must be obeyed is fairly happy. Thanks for the help!

Blimey, that was quick, dreftar! Any pictures?

Quite a nice rack design that - certainly one for the bookmarks, at any rate...

Seems fine

Does the table not display any rotational oscillation ?
Or is it more rigid than it looks ?

Seems rigid enough. Those three 18mm threaded rods are extremely strong.

It hasnt rotated yet! Even when the turntable turns! at least not whilst Ive been looking! :)

I'm thinking of using a couple of corras units from Ikea...they look quite elegant...

a Pic

Ill try and post a pic of the completed FleXy Table Dscf0005wee.jpg

Very nice. I intend to build one too. Did you use any rubber washers/feet?

OT how´s the bass response of the Elacs?

Can I ask where you got the parts from?

The threaded rods, wahers and nuts are stainless and I got them from a ships chandlers - a good source of industrial stainless steel products - The wood shelves from a hardware shop, they come ready sanded and cut, just drill the holes and bolt together.

not yet - i wanted to use neoprene washers and bushes on each shelf but couldnt find any the right size. I intend putting the feet onto something solid - paving slab or something

Fantastic for a speaker of their size, abysmal for a speaker costing what they do. I have a small living room and the laws of physics precludes deep musical bass. I live in a house not a cathedral. The bass they do produce is tonally rich and very musical. They dont even attempt deep bass and this is a strength. Bass guitar is superb, cello OK, double bass kinda disappears, organ music and major orchestral works - forget it, go to a concert! Accoustic small group and solo, Elacs are astounding. High frequencies and so musical, never harsh or intrusive, lower mid could be improved but that might be my other bits n pieces. They like to be bi amped and as I have already said best on accoustic, jazz, blues, folk and quartets etc. I play JJ CAle, Paul Simon, Tracey Chapman, Jacques Loussier, Kelly Joe Phelps, Nickle Creek, Mark oh hell cant spell Dire straits, Bob Dylan.

Elacs fit in, in a domestic situation both aesthetically and musically IMO - thats why I bought them!

Looks Great

Looks fantastic!

Guess Ill need to get out the sander and varnish and stain etc - I like the finish youve achieved and the way the legs have been turned to a point.
