Hi Racey - the squeezebox does not use the soundcard in your pc, so you either use the in-built dac or add your own.

I'm not sure about the Sonos, but I believe it's the same.

There would be nothing to stop you trying an external dac to see if you think it makes much difference (I think it takes great expense to make the smallest difference, but opinions vary! )

I tried an expensive DAC with my main system a few years ago and it made no difference at all.
I'm reluctant to make the same mistake again with internet radio unless it seems reasonably certain that there will be a worthwhile improvement.
