On my new system I had a tiny amount of hiss coming out of my speakers when your really close loading up a cd. I thought it was just one of those things, but paid it no mind, as it's impossible to detect from the sofa.

Anyway I recently changed all my power cables for shileded ones from Maplins, at 29 quid each. I also bought an Olson 'Sounds Fantastic' 8 socket multiway for all my gear, so I only have one power lead going across to the wall socket. I also have a power lead free from Rochester Hifi (which costs £150 normally) going to my preamp.

So now the hiss had TOTALLY dissapered. Shows this stuff works afterall. There was me being a skeptic and expecting no change. Go for it if you have any hiss issues!

Cables do make a difference. I make no bones about that. Often it can't be explained but we should accept it. What I will never accept is the bull that it need cost anything like what the industry has managed to ratchet up over the years, with the cooperation of equipment manufacturers and wanky hifi mags.

I mean, a technical exlanation might easily be countered by another one that negates it and we should trust our ears instead. I have many times heard differences. I even heard more attack in a Cyrus system just by a change of interconnect plugs ! Where I depart from many into hifi is that I think it is possible to get a similar result with another, as yet unfound, cable at a completely different price. Its impossible for most of us to indulge endless comparisons. To suggest that more and more money equals better and better performance is nonsense. Virtually all cables are overpriced i.e. I judge tham to be a rip off, vastly in excess of the cost of making them.
