yeah, I've a few hundred hidden away - I went thru a phase of buying what I had on cd - but found a lot sounded dated and didn't play them anymore...sigh...
I have a good stack stored away in the loft, perhaps they'll be worth something some day Mostly very very overused badly recorded happy hardcore tapes though so possibly not.Have a load of drum & bass tape packs too. Nothing to play them on though.
yeah, I've just got a very dodgy mini hifi under my bed...but I've got loads of tapes of john peel, janice long and andy kershaw from radio one from the late 80's and early 90's...some class stuff...half man half biscuit, surreal estate, robyn hitchcock, etc,etc...
i used pretty exclusively tdk-sa.... a very good chrome tape at a great price... far better noise than a lot of other chromes and ferrics but nowhere near as expensive as their illustrious MA.
anyone remember the Sony super metal master? a metal casette with alloy body coming in at about 20 quid per blank casette.
looking back, can see the start of an upgrade habit forming because of tapes, as for me they were the first way of hearing differences in quality.... as cash-starved 12 year old, might tape something off mono radio onto a basic crumbly BASF horror . friend A would then buy the record,; get him to over tape it. get pocket money - buy TDK chrome, get friend to re-record. friend B's dad buys decent hifi - borrow record from friend A and get friend B to re-record ...etc etc. page on thirty years... buy the cd, but the sacd, upgrade the sacd player ......
I tended to use TDK sax.......one crimble way back, my mother bought me ten...she got them at a great price for c90's.....until I opened them and found she had got C60's. Which were of course niether use nor ornament. I remember some horrid Boots tapes too.........
