it's going great. out of the box they were horrible but after a few hours playing and a few days AC , over above the evo4 they replaced, they seem be doing most things right - detail, music etc. They are a bargain @ 1300 ukp against the 3.8K belcanto want for the same kit.

to complicate things slightly i bought a new transport for my sugden pda 10 dac. i got around to installing this this morning and the diiference is amazing. it's a musetex cd-d. confusion being the class d's warming up possibly accounting for difference, but i don't think so. i was using a arcam cd72 as a transport ( now sold for chicken feed) .

Must get around to measuirng it!

they seem to be - solid to handle and decent connectors and switch.

I sold my evo 4 today and had a good look at it in the process, i wouldn't say the danish stuff is of the same build quality but all it's got to do is sit in a cupboard and do its job.

John,
As a BC user, that sounds awfully interesting. What's your source/speakers?
If I ask nicely, any chance of a listen?

source is raven one TT/stock arm/ zyx cart/vinyl one and a cd of sorts. speakers are focal 1027

of course you can have a listen though i think we should leave it a couple of weeks for them to warm up a little. i'm in SE4. i'll drop you a PM in a week or two

I have similar feelings. In my system ICEpowered power amp also outperformed my old Bel Canto eVo 4 mk II.

im also interested in the 1001-ref's as ive owned the bel canto S300i but fancy the ref1000's.

The idea of getting the same performance for a lot less cash appeals.

Question is.. are they the same.. or are the bel canto's better in some way

I've had the 1001's for a week or so - they are great. they as elberoth says outperform the evo 4, and the evo 4 is a good amp. i suspect that there is very little to choose between them and the bc monos asside from the ar being less than half the price. two choices i suppose - either try and have a listen or just take a flyer and order them. i did the later and am pleased i did.

They are all the same - they are all based around the same ICEpower module, which contains not only complete poweramp but also a switching power supply.

So basicly, to make them work, all you need is to connect 230V, input signal and speaker terminals. The only difference between those poweramps is the casing.

The only ICEpower amps which are a bit different from those I have seen/opened are Jeff Rowland 201/501 models - they use custom made input stage with Lundhal transformer.

yeah id all but decided to get the bel canto pre3, simply because i like the functionality of it, and its sonically about as transparent as any pre ive ever heard. Will pipe it through to a pair of these 1001-ref's since they are amazingly cheap for what they are.

I did speak to the bloke from ar who told me that they do cårry out some mods to the ice pcb. I guess rowland wouls have to to justify the price

Hi hsam,
Tried your link ends up at a plush looking hotel, no amps in site.
could you plese give me correct site address.
cheers john
