Interesting? wood speaker cones!

I think you risk a speaker which is goignt o sound very different between pairs, just as acustic guitars all sound different. Appears to be find a solution to a non existent problem.

Still they might look good.

Wooden't it be nice if cones were rigid
Then our notes would always be on song
Wooden't it be nice if we could stop them
Splitting open when the volume's strong
Soaked in saké makes us that much better
We could listen and get sloshed together.

Wooden't it be nice if we could wake up
And the splitting's only in our head
Wooden't it be nice to know our cone's fine
Even though we wished that we were dead
Clever people get to the essential
Nippon bud the problems unconvent'ial
Wooden't it be nice!

(with apologies to Brian Wilson)

Don't worry. They sound crap. It's a marketing gimmick. Victor do make some half decent speakers though.

Well I feel its my duty to credit Tones on his excellent song. Can't let work like that go unnoticed:guitar:
Those speakers remind me of the wooden car that was for sale a little while ago....it had a wooden engine...wooden bodywork, even a wooden stereo...

thats right....it wooden go

Let's just say that I won't be rushing out to try them. I doubt that they could achieve the same stiffness to mass ratio or be as controllable in the high frequency break-up region.

Mind you, I've found that Sake does indeed have the positive effects that they describe. I don't use it in quite the same way, however. :MILD:

Sake is supposed to be good for the complexion... Can't say it's done much for, though  Probably not drinking enough :D I'm currently on a Shochu kick. Satsumai kuro is seriously good - like a really, really good Grappa, only better.

Do they really sound crap?

I like the idea of 'odd' HiFi and was going to get the mini for fun as it's only £300. OTOH if it's no good I'll save the petrol I'd use tracking one down around these parts.

FWIW, my guess is that they wouldn't sound crap but rather pleasant. I would also guess that they wouldn't be the last word in speed or detail, however, as the wood/resin mix is likely to weigh more than other cone materials.

My sense is that this isn't just a marketing exercise but is a serious attempt.

Yes, they sound crap and come attached to a crappy faux-woody mini system that you buy in the far Eastern version of Comet. Victor use materials like aluminium and highly spun unobtanium on the better kit.
