Ipod - HongKong prices??

http://www.xe.com

Looks like the most expensive model comes in at £320 thats the 60 gig colour ipod photo, or in england a bog standard 40 gig.

Damn we are bum rushed all the time.

well the top of the range is £420 in the uk so a hundred cheaper. But would really only be worth your while if you were visiting hongkong on business or whatever.

As it goes the US one is £320 for the top of the line one, so basically England getting Boned then

Get an Iriver ihp 120 (around £200) penance, can record to it from various sources, not as pretty admittedly, but sounds at least as good(if not better) and way more versatile IMHO, even has a built in radio, whatever garyi and Ian say.

AK, a Toyota Corolla will get you from A to B but given the choice between a Corolla and the equivalent BMW/Mercedes/Audi I know which one most people would choose ;)

Mike the analogy would be better if you didn't compare the poor ipod with a corolla, should be a lexus at least, but I get your point. :)

I saw a great article on the realtive merits of both, basically the iriver is fantastic for PC geeks in that its really difficult to use with lots of buttons and gives you pointless information about the burn quality etc.

The ipod is for the common man who likes good quality and style.

I've heard both through some serious hifi, soundwise there's nothing in it. The iPod is a nicer "thing", however, albeit not as well featured out of the box. I can see why it's far and away the most popular device of its type.

Totally agree with you Ian. It also had a head start sales wise, but itdoes look very nice, FWIW stick the irver in an Iskin and it looks a lot better than the crap case it came with.

No particular recommendations for websites or shops but one tip I would give and that is that it's generally cheaper to shop for your electronic gadgets (and most other goods) out of town in Hong Kong. Shops in the central business districts, especially say in Kowloon or Central will generally not be as cheap as the electronics emporiums in the New Territories on the mainland. Try having a look around some of the numerous shopping malls in Sheung Shui for example, quite a lot of the shops in those outer lying areas don't accept credits cards and deal in cash only but you can usually haggle as well. Avoid buying from market stalls of course, but from personal experience, any of the genuine outlets in the modern shopping malls shouldn't present any problems. HTH. :)

Edited to add, the duty free at the airport also ain't necessarily the cheapest place in HK to get your eletronics either.
