Some of you may know I am looking into getting an ipod nano in the near future.

My main objective is to get a small hifi for downstairs. I have my main system on the loft, but I could do with music downstairs too.

My plan is to get a nano, store all my music on my PC, and use the downstairs hifi for MP3s.

It looks like the Monitor Audio i-deck is the one to go for, but I am wondering whether there are any other alternatives??? The MA system is £250, which seems good value, but more than I want to spend at the moment.

Are there any other MP3 systems out there??

Also, has anybody heard the MA i-deck? What do you think of it?

    Thanks

Have you considered getting a wireless streamer, store the music on your PC and stream it wirelessley to the hifi.

Main advantage is you would get a screen and remote for controlling the music.

HAve a look at the Squeezebox 3, Terratec Noxon etc.

if u go the ipod route:
try an altec lansing im4 about £60
    or jbl onstage nearer £100.

another alternative is the apple airtunes, which picks up whatever itunes is playing upstairs, and plays the same through the hifi through which it is connected. you'll need a wireless network for that.

i agree with andrew, neatest solution is the squeezebox, lots of threads here about that. (but you cant go out with the squeezebox in your pocket)

That shouldn't be a problem, just setup a wireless network, connect the access point/router to the computer upstairs and put the squeezebox (or others) downstairs.

If its just an ipod and nothing else why not buy some powered studio monitors, used ones would be even better. Most of my experience with speaker systems that have 'i' in them are they're white, plastic and sound broken.

    thanks,

this sounds like the ideal way, which type of wireless network system would I need and how much are they??

As you can tell i'm new to this wireless stuff.

It depends, do you have broadband/want internet radio?

A non broadband access point would be about £25, a broadband one would be more expensive (£50-£70 for a half decent one)

You simply plug the access point/router into the PC with the supplied cable, configure it and set the Squeezebox to access it.

Doesn't Squeezebox do something suitable for this?
