Is *signal purity* BS?

Surely you mean 'a cock oriented wallet fest of bollocks'...

Cooky...hehe..

This BS thread ended just as so many other BS threads on ZG.

At least I found some no-bs's here along this one.

An appetizer that I really want to test off by myself.

When that's done, I will ask for permission if I may spil more green ink cock oriented wallet fest of bollocks BS here based on those learnings.

Wether somone wants to try out the 'bit perfect thing signal purity awards' I don't care at all.
I just asked why? And I got answers enough.

Please feel free to Gerner. Would be my pleasure.

CU in UK then.

I'll announce when I'm around.

And thanks a lot for your hospitality Shin.

At that moment I might be able to tell you what I learned from your world.

I got this many years ago.... somehow it relates to some postings here:

I heard a full digital equalised Lyngdorf system last month (in a Show, for the most part of an afternoon) and I have to agree with Nomoretweaks: it sounded balanced but bland.

Just my own thoughts on the real meat of any audio debate:

The human brain is a remarkable thing. It cares nothing for accuracy even though that might be the technical ideal and the never wavering yardstick to which hifi equipment can be easily judged by.
Some people prefer colouration whether that be an ear friendly distortion or an emphasis of certain frequencies caused by an uneven frequency response that creates greater contrasts between frequencies and essentially skews the original for something that may arguably be more appealing.

Other times the brain has become an expert at filtering these problems and has lived with them for so long that to be without creates unnatural sound.

We often typically prefer the more flavoursome ingredients of life and music is no exception.

Its good that we all have different opinions on what makes a good system. Our ears are the only thing that matters and its clear that people interpret sounds differently. Throughout life we collect experiences that shape our perspectives, our prejudices, preferences and most importantly our expectations. Inevitably how we interpret the sounds certain kit produce can only lead to disappointment shaped by this life time of experiences and expectations.

If it doesn't sound good to you then why expend the effort to try and force it to sound good. That sounds more like deprogramming to me and we're all individuals.

I would also dare to add that a good system should allow you brain to withstand long listening sessions without getting stressed or fatigued.

I'd agree but I've had experiences where live unamplified music done exactly that. The last time was as during a cruise early last year and in the ballroom they had a grand piano along with a jazz quartet playing. After around 20 minutes the music was grating and I left for the deck to catch some fresh air.

I don't think you could claim the sound was unnatural and nor were the musicians unskilled, quite the opposite. For whatever reason I couldn't sit to listen and needed a break. However make no mistake that I was the only one walking around the deck except for the smokers.

Make of that what you will.

I wouldn't like to have a string or jazz quartet playing at "natural" levels in my living room either.

My stereo's purpose of existence is to allow it's owner the pleasure of enjoying music.

Happy New Year!

how often do you listen to the live music?

it needs some time for your brain to adjust to a completely new set of information. if i don't go to concerts for 3 months, i surely get an instant headache from a simple piano concert, regardless of loudness

Very rarely unfortunately. Just twice last year including that one. You could be right, although I suspect others in the room have a similar exposure level yet revelled in it. All down to the individual which was the point I was trying to get at.
