Coca-cola are giving away downloads from iTunes, I have downloaded some songs but although they work in iTunes it wont let me convert them to mp3 to play on my walkman phone?

I am using a mac btw so won't be able to use any pc software

You can burn an audio CD (which will convert to WAV) and then re-rip as MP3. No idea if there is a better way to do this, though.

thanx, sound quality isnt a big issue as im listening on my phone whilst cycling mp3 is never going to be a listen of choice in the house.

I am surprised people buy albums from iTunes £8 for an album with no case, poor quality and limited usage when they could buy the cd for the same money and rip it any way they wish?

I know...shady feckers. I've seen plenty of 'full price' (i.e. £11.99 and more) on there, too. So, Mr. Jobs, your trying to flog me something that's the same price as a CD (often considerably dearer if i shop around - Amazon Marketplace, eBay etc.), but with lower quality sound and restrictions regarding what i can & can't do with it?! Er, no thanks...

However free song of my choice with 2ltr bottles of coke which i drink anyway is a good way of getting odd songs which i wouldnt buy an album for.

UNregistered get a grip. Apple had to satisfy 'the big 5' regarding the safety of the download, in other words they did not want it copied. Apple make on average 2 cents a track the rest goes to sony etc.

Do some learning before bitching.

The best price seems to be free which will be a new service launched soon, sadly it will be for current crap and you have to be bombarded worth more advertising then you already do.

bombarded with even more cr4p :( I am so sick of american stock suggestions! Grrr, like i would invest on the stock market based on an anonimous email FFS

Haha, no this service will be web based, sadly I don't have the details it was on elreg somewhere.

Basically the premise is free downloads (but again heavily DRM) in exchange for reading a tonne of total crap that no one will want any how.

Hey I'm cool. I just think that rants should have just a little bit of basis in truth otherwise its just bullshit innit?

im amazed your phone doesnt support MP4 (or AAC) mine does.. and its only a samsung.

you dont even need itunes to create mp4's i use nero burner to make all my CD's into AAC as its far better sound quality for any given bitrate than an Mp3

A 64k AAC will easilly sound as good as a 128k MP3 and a 128k AAC is all but indestinguishable from the original on casual listening.

i use AAC as it lets me get as much as possible on my phone... without sacraficing much in the way of quality or storage space.

so i'd check and see if your phone will actually play them as they are

My sony ericsson won't play them.

Thanks for the code Robert but someone claimed it already :(

Note that the recent subject is m4p files, not mp4 files: a file with .m4p extension (not a mistype) is a file mith MPEG-4 encoding, the with copy protection added on top of that.
