either my cdp or tt is out of phase.

in order to establish which, trane right or left speaker?

i've so many boxes that it's no easy task to take it all out and check so does it really matter either way?

Can someone explain this phase business to me please, surely the only way you can get things out of phase is to either build your interconnects badly, wire your speakers up wrong or the recording is out of phase?

even more tricky to test with both arms in plaster IMO...

Its not hard .......

out of phase .......is the speakers [usually]

sucking when it should be blowing ..............

normally when the speaker wires from the amp connect to the opposite on the speakers ie + at the amp and - at the speaker.

What is really bad when one drive unit is out of phase thats a nightmare...

How to check ......get a refference disc or setup disc I use the HiFI news one

It has tracks that describe which speaker the sound should be coming from.

Some are even more exotic like the chetsky one that does depth and image as well.

Now without a reff. disc

visually check ALL connections to make certain all the red leads go to red sockets and all the white leads go to white sockets.

Once that is done it just leaves a few oddss and ends tha can possibley be wrong ....the cartridge and arm wires and the speaker cables. Both should be easy to see if a error has been made wiring them up.

I don't get how a CD player can be out of phase unless it has a phase switch. The only thing you can do with it is wire the ICs up the wrong way round which has nothing to do with phase, it just flips the image through 180 degrees.

i mean to say that my left and right are mixed up between these two sources. from the power amp to the speakers everthing is in phase. i just wondered whether the stereo image being reversed was such a sin

It's not a sin, nor 'out of phase'. I spotted this once with my own system after swapping some cables around; the opening notes in Canned Heat's 'On the Road Again' moved from left to right instead of vice-versa. It sounded odd so I rectified it, but I'd been happily listening to lots of other music without noticing!

Some discs are or were recorded out of phase ...
the early dire straits "love over gold" was one.

Its a hard one to get a cdp to be other than as is .....so it may have been out of phase sall the time ?

swap over your speaker leads[ on each speaker] to put it back into phase/ alter the phase and see ?

John, Trane should be in the left speaker, except on one record, which one I can't remember now.

If he's in the right speaker on both vinyl and CD, you probably just need to swap the pre->power cables round.
