Got some dynaudio 72s which seemed too much for my old aura 50 amp.

So bought a 2nd hand krell kav300i for £930. Difference is huge. Has the muscle to really whip those babies into line! Especially in the base.

So now have a dyn 72, kav300i, rega planet cd set-up.

What next? my cables/interconnects etc are nothing special. Would a cd upgrade make much difference.

What about seperation (squash balls etc), speaker levelling, placement.

Just looking for some tips to make the sound even better.....

You need a good HiFi rack. It is a sure thing to buy. Interconnects are risky to buy unless you have them and make A/B comparisons. I recommend Mana Acoustics for support. Try the webpage and see if you like them. All my Naim are on Mana. Mana supports are excellent.

Bobby, I'm in a similar situation to yourself. I have a Rega Planet CD player into a Krell 300i into Leema Acoustics Xavier speakers.

Which cables do you currently use? Are you using a dedicated mains cable on the 300i at all?

I've been thinking about upgrading the Planet but there's nothing under £1000 (new anyway) that will provide a noticeable upgrade IMO.

I'm looking at second hand players that originally retailed at the £2000+ mark or possibly a DAC.

A decent rack is a good place to start.

You could put a Townshend Seismic Sink under the planet.

Add, for example, Audusa Eupen 05/2.5 mains leads and maybe an Olson Sounds Fantastic! filter/distribution block.

bobby,
you don;t actually say what you dislike about the sound of your system. i'd say your first thing to do would be to listen to some other systems or get to a hi-fi show and have a good listen. then once you know what you're aiming at take a listen to some cd players and some racks - although demmoing the latter can be a pain.
cheers

It's not that i don't like. it sounds fantastic compared to what i'm used to. but i just want to push my system even further.

How about a list of improvements, starting with the cheapest/most efficeint (best improvement per pund):
eg
1. Upgrade interconnect.
2. upgrade speaker cable
3. upgrade cd player
4. upgrade house
5. upgrade wife (prohibitively expensive)

thanks

WM, to echo JRibee, and others', remarks on pfm: I KNOW Mana is the best by a mile, but saying so goes down very badly with the great unwashed/deaf.

You forgot one of the most important things - the mains. How about a decent power conditioner like a Trichord powerblock or some decent (not necessarily expensive) mains cables?

bobby,
if you're happy with the sound of your kit i suggest you put your plastic to work doubling the size of your cd collection and exploring musical genres you though you didn;t like.
cheers
