Any one live aound there as it looks like im moving there shortly, basicly after info on areas to avoid when house hunting:rolleyes: and any other usefull info on the area.
Also anyone any idea how much removal firms charge for moving the contents of a 3 bed house 120 miles?

:D

I paid £480 for removals from Reading -> Exeter - OK, so it wasn't a full 3 bed house' worth, but it half filled a fairly large lorry (7 tonner?) - I reckon since you're also moving "out of season" expect about £700 max from a smaller company, or £1500 for a ripoff merchant like Pickfords.

try this - ring up a local firm of where you live now, and compare that of the price of a removal firm of where you're moving to...granted it may not be much difference with it only being 120 miles, but if you're moving from the south, up north, then the difference is massive!

hope this helps!

Hi hippy

Are you looking at Lowestoft itself, or are you interested in the surrounding areas too? I'm in Beccles, which I think is pretty nice(although I've only moved here myself fairly recently so may be completely wrong) and isn't far from Lowestoft(about 8 miles), and there are loads of smart little villages around and about.

I have a few friends in Lowestoft itself so I'll check with them regarding areas of the town to look out for, etc., and get back to you in the next couple of days. Do you need info on 'good school areas' too?

cheeers all.rang a couple of removal companys looking at £700-£800,luckily a relocation package is included
goomer im looking at lowestoft itself as i dont have any transport at the moment and the job involves working unusall hours,no need for schools ect so thats not a problem.
Beccles public hall is one of the venues i'll be occasionaly working in so our paths may cross, especially if theres a good pub close by:D

Nice one - and yeah, relocation packages are great aren't they?
:D

Hope they can move those demonically huge speakers you built though :)

One of the pubs is apparently starting a pole dancing night(!) - does that count?

Anyway, I'll check with mates in Lowestoft and come back to you, hopefully tomorrow.

Bye for now...

Ah well, if a rellocation package is included, I don't suppose it really matter who you go for, does it? Just go for Pickfords for a laugh!

I got a firm local to where I use to live in Surrey to move me 200 miles down to Devon 2 years ago. They charged me £1k almost dead on the nose for moving a very full 3 bedroom house. Only slight breakage that happened during the removal process was two of my record cases, I was going to tell them not to pick the cases up by the handles as they weren't strong enough but oops too late - luckily the LPs which were inside just spilled out onto a carpeted floor and didn't sustain any damage. The removal chaps were very efficient though, and friendly too, in fact I sat in the truck's cab with them on the journey down as I didn't have alternative transport arrangements... we nattered and listened to Madonna's "Music" album played far too many times on a rather worbbly (continuous  ) auto-reverse deck. :)

Also, credit to the guys for being so gentle with my boxed up Orbe t/t. I only took the platter off, but otherwise kept the deck fully assembled and told them to take great care, which they certainly did. :MILD:

Another quote I got from Pickfords was twice as much, yes £2k, the robbing baskets!! :bub:

Cheers for the tip on that Henry - Geoff and co from Talon Transport were good company too - but no radio, let alone tapedeck, in the van we had!!!

I tell you one thing though - my highest quote was *3x* higher than Talon Transport's (Les, dunno if you're near their catchment area but they were dirt cheap and very efficient). They, among others, can be found here:

Are you sure? BT Openworld just charge you £30 to transfer your account to a new location.

Who is this lame broadband provider?
