Firstly, I know that Matsui isn't usually associated with quality gear and will doubtless raise a few laughs - I'm guilty of the same.

However, now that I've gone from an AV receiver to a stereo amp, I'm tunerless. I've seen these for about £60 in Dixons etc. and was wondering if they were any good. I'm not a huge radio fan, but do listen to Radio 2 on occasions and would sometimes record the odd concert onto the PC (via the amp's tape loops).

I could use a Psion WaveFinder DAB receiver for the purpose (plugs into the USB port and will record to the PC's HDD). However, these are only available on e-Bay and after doing a fair bit of research, they don't work with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Hence, this looks on the face of it, a bit of a bargain for £60. Any one tried one?

I would steer clear of anything by Matsui. Their products really redefine bad quality and take it to a new nadir. I've seen fake kit used in IKEA showrooms that's better made.

Dynamic turtle, I take it you've never taken the trouble to listen to a high-end Kenwood, Sansui, Pioneer or Sony tuner, because even with old components they will wipe the floor with the denon

I've got a Matsui Nicam VHS that's been going for 10 years, and still appears to work pretty well, even when connected to my main system...
Mebbe I got the good one.

I've had a Matsui CD walkman and a Matsui car radio/CD player both of which were absolutely dreadfully made and packed up in less than 6 months of usage. Perhaps their products were better 10 years ago.

Thanks guys - I think I'll likely pick up a Denon TU260L at some point. Don't really have the space for a big 70s tuner - the desk that my hifi shares with the PC isn't that big, so depth and width is a problem, as well as the issue of reliability - anyone remember the 70s Pioneer receiver that Cookiemonster bought that died a death rather quicly? The Denon seems to be highly regarded and will stack neatly on top of my CDP/amp.
