Is she really fit ? Are there lots of close up bits of her training in skimpy outfits? Will she give us the horn ?

I saw this at the cinema, it really is a superb film and fully deserving of the oscars it got.

What with this and Mystic River ol' Eastwood is putting some of the younger guys in Hollywood to shame.

Nope, that'd be too quick.....Wham Bam Thankyou maam, if you catch my drift.
I'd be happier with a longer drawn out battle scene for our "look at the size of MY transformers" man :D (something like the final Ali:Frazier fight, thrilla manilla)

I watched this last night after your recommendation. It has nothing to do a baby or a million dollars! One of the fights was for half a million.. very very good though :)

Watched some of this on TV last night and thought it was absolute bollox to be honest! Awful rubbish. Morgan Freeman got a Best Supporting Actor for playing the same character he always plays and the film got Best Picture!? Unbelievable! I turned it off after about 40 minutes because it was soooo bad. I understand that later on it all goes tits up for her and it confronts some 'important issues' but if that part of the film is as bad as the first bit then I imagine it will be more cheese on toast.

Talk about filmaking by numbers, it felt like a parody!

I know what you mean - I usually watch films a few years (at least) after they've been made - and the amount of times I've been underwhelmed is unreal...
I just wonder what all the fuss was about...

    Watched it last night too.

I enjoyed it on the whole. Not really aware of any hype around it so just took it as it came.

I was quite enjoying a female rocky type film, and then they turned it all horrible for the last 20 minutes.

Not my idea of escapism thank you very much mr film maker.

Just because a film wins an Oscar does not mean its a good film. Its more the self appreciation society. The worst film that i can remember winning an Oscar is Titanic.

i saw this a while ago, thought it was ok. Women boxers are mainly dog rough, so this was a bit of poetic anyway...a bit too far fetched IMO

My exact thoughts on it there! Didn't think the last 20 minutes added anything to a story that like you I didn't think I'd enjoy but did (female Rocky) - totally needless and bloody depressing....

I'm one of those people who cannot regard as sport the getting into a ring with the deliberate intention of knocking off someone else's block. I therefore started watching this with some trepidation, but I found I quite enjoyed it. I did like Hillary Swank with her wonderful "boss" ("bauwss") prononciation, and I can see why she got an Oscar (insofar as I can see how anyone gets an Oscar). Why Morgan Freeman (whom I confess I always enjoy) got one is beyond me - buttering up the right people in Hollywood? Time for a minority Oscar?

I actually thought the ending was good, if sad, as Eastwood mercifully ends the pointless existence of the daughter he really wished he had. Maggie wanted to go out on a high, remembering her name being chanted, seeing herself in the paper, not trapped in a useless body.

Morgan Freeman is great in this film! Anyway, i don't like this movie cause don't understand the situation when a woman fights on the ring. it's awful.

Good point. The actress who played the young girl's mother was also nominated. She is not from Boston and most probably is not familair with that life. She was VERY deserving IMO. Not a fan of the movie, however. Dismal characters and an ending for somebody other than myself.

Oh heck, just realized this topic is about a different movie altogether! Well, I saw the one it IS about also and thought it was just OK.
