what year did the MS30i speakers came out in? I'm aware they costed over £500 for a bookshelf, OUCH.

I still see people still like these speakers.

Ah yes ok, then later replaced by the 20i. I think my next door neighbour had a pair of MS20i with a little teac system. Sounded very nice.

    I paid 100 for the 20s.

I'm surprised the 30is were so much more.

Its getting into pretty hot company.

i had a pair of the ms30i classics, driven by an arcam 9/9p combo.

big boxes for a sealed standmount, but sounded very, very nice indeed! lovely detailed sound with very good bass welly. not seen them around for years s/h, but they are a very good speaker.

    Thanks for your reply.

Was the MS30i a bit bright sounding? As I see people use warm sounding amps with them.

It went downhill as they went up, the early 90's 10's were a very highly rated small speaker, the 20's faired well, then it all seemed to slope off with the 30's (£250,100w) 40's and 50's.
    Wouldn't know what improvement's were made with the later *i* version's ? :)

Been doing some research on the MS30i. Way back in 1998 they were £600!!!!!!!!!

Now that's a lot of money for a bookshelf speaker over 10 years ago.

I will like to hear the MS10i one day.

i wouldnt say they were bright as such, but they were very detailed. they matched the arcam combo i had superbly, better than the 752 freedoms i had at the time too. the tweeter could have a tendancy to "shout" at high volumes with the wrong kit, i tried them with a mates rotel at the time, and it sounded shite.

cant remember what i paid for them back then, (i bought them new) but they weren't cheap. sold them on the bay about 8 years ago iirc for about 200 quid inc some partington stands. the guy was chuffed to bits with them :)

Also I notice the good thing about the MS30i is that they are sealed speakers. So I assume they are not that critical with position.

not critical at all, but imo, they did work better with a little space around them. not much, i had them about 10 inches from the rear wall and they sounded fab.

Someone suggested the Celestion A1 are better than the MS30i.

I am not very good with Celestion speakers.

But what is the difference between the Celestion SL600si and the SL6i?
