.....has become very picky.

He owns a Mark.I Cambridge Audio Transport which, up until recently, was working fine. However, if the unit is left switched off for a while it won't play any discs until it has 'warmed up' for 30 minutes or so. I thought it may be moisture on the laser but his house isn't particularly susceptable to excess humidity. Could it be a mechanism or circuit problem ?

(Yes, I know he could just leave it switched on :p )

Does it have a TOC (display) a reading during that time, laser trouble, a dead give away is when it's working it would be very skeptical to vibration i.e. a slight knock

It states 'Disc' but there are no specific disk details (no. of tracks, length etc.) and you can't access anything, using the 'track' buttons, beyond track 1 (which it doesn't play).
After 30 minutes it plays as normal  .

Sound's likley it's the laser have you tried cleaning the lens,i have found this works sometimes for a while.

Not sure, I'd have to open it up to have a look. I'll sift the net and see if I can find any info.

Cheers,

Steve
