......ahhhh!

Almost makes me want to..........

Hmmm. At first glance there appears to be quite a bit of duplication here. I can understand that some items may be collectors items, but why have more than one of each model.

I wonder if they are all wired up

They probably are all wired up, though unlikely to be with Shunyatas.

These guys make audiophiles look positively sane. They are to the audio world what Max Power is to the automobile literature. TBH, i think a lot of them just sit and stare at the big vu meters and aluminium knobs in nervous excitement - hence duplicates, the attachment of speakers or leading edge thwack probably aren't priorities.

Some more here:

I expect that this thread is very boring, but i was just reminiscing, as today is the 5 month anniversary of the death of my pioneer receiver.

yours nervously :D

can we turn this into a cool-looking vintage tuner thread?

I quite fancy some VDU meter eye-candy!

:D

hmmm... this little baby (see attached) looks just like the amp we murdered at work :)

she really didn't like driving 4_ Ohms :D she was eating fuses like there was no tomorrow by the time we decided to replace her. happily the MF B2 replacement has no trouble driving the load.

hmm, might bring her home one of these days :)

Changing the subject back to proper kit...

I used to own one of these.

Not the prettiest unit on the planet (my TEAC was prettier) but it worked well.

I give you the TEAC X3. Now this was a nice machine. Full solenoid operation was a revelation after the Tandberg.

OMG!

Those Tuners are awesome looking.

I dont even care what they sound like!!

How much are they second hand cookie?

The 'broadcast monitor' and the revox (and the marantz with the oscilloscope) are my faves.

me waaaaaaaaaant :)

Chris,

anything like this you want to buy from the States, (where these things seem to be found in skips, or garage sales for $5!!!). Next best place is probably Germany. First, they are hard to come by on these shores, and second, if you do manage to find one in reasonable nick, they are likely to blow up! (hehe....reputable dealers don't have many - plus you pay a fair whack, and private sales require a LOT of precaution. I'd definitely demo if possible)

The sequerra is probably difficult to find, and is failry pricey by all accounts (couple of grand?)

The Revox (B760) is probably not that difficult to get hold of even in the UK. (In fact IIRC i think Simon Connell has one) I haven't followed the market for a while, but they used to crop up fairly regulalry (possibly becuase they were used in studios?). A decent one would probably be <£500.

The Marantz would probably cost more, as they carry a bit of kudos for whatever reason, and prices fluctuate dramatically.

A lot depends on condition and service history with these things.
TBH, i would personally pay over the odds if i was assured of getting a good 'un.

If you were serious, i expect Audiogon would be a good stop. And if you were going to spend decent wedge, try and get something which has been renovated professionaly (again - difficult to get done PROPERLY in this country - and i'm not just talking re-alignment - i know of some places in London, ut then i've never really got that involved that much in these things so i'm only an amateur). Ebay in the States has stuff in abundance, but take the normal precautions.

Here's an example of a nice Sansui piece that has had a proper going over (obviously its an amp which involves a lot more, but gives you an ideas of a 'proper job':

That's not meant to put you off, just air on the side of caution, even though its only a tuner. You may be lucky at the end of the day with a bargain find.

look here for a guide on tunas:

cheers

Silver components are  , as is champagne gold. Did someone say "Accuphase"? :D Ah, I think I'll need to replace my DP90 with something else of similar colouring when that goes, rather fancy one of these:
