Need new headphones - Max budget £40

I guess the most important to thing in headphones to me is the quality of the midrange and how well they allow the music to flow. Detail and bass are secondary.

Headphone deep bass is different from speaker deep bass- sort of 'disembodied' bass that you don't feel in your body. It's never really convinced me.

I remember hifi choice reviewed a pair of Technics phones (about 10 years ago) and said they had amazingly deep bass. I never managed to get to hear a pair, unfortunately.

i caved and got an i-spod touch a week or so ago. nice bit of kit but i've had a few problems with it. it keeps loosing cover art in cover flow, the interface can be a little inconsistent between apps and it's had to be reset once already loosing all the data on it (not a problem more annoying as it takes about an hour to synch completely). also if you have wi-fi on it eats the battery.
other than that it's pretty cool.

I do hope it proves reliable.
Nice little web browser built in that actually works well which with the other apps make it a nice device and not too pricey for what you get.

yes i bow my head in shame but unfortunately my trusty archos met something pointy in the screen area and all the magic lcd goo leaked out of it leaving the lower left 1/8th of the screen still working - so tune selection was a tad more random than i liked.
looking around the touch offered the best solution to multiple requirements (music and moveis, a remote for the squeezebox, light browsing and e-mail) in a tiny package thats pretty damn sexy.
i like it a lot and asside from the one blip it's behaved ok for now. if it looses it's memory again then it's going back though.

Get some akg k-55s, or the sennheiser clsed hd 201 or whatever they have now.

I hate the audio technicas. I once bought a pair of their earphones for 110 quid without reading a review; they sounded like ipod earphones. the ATs do looks nice though, very sexy.

If this was the US you could get the grados, but they cost more than twice as much over the pond :( not really a budget budget headphone when they get over here (the sr60s i mean)

just bought some px100's. i'd give them a thumbs up - a wee bit bass heavy (but then that could just be the thumping music i listen to) but they don;t distort at the top end and the mid is quite clear.
mine were £35 from music matters but i just snapped thanks to having to listen via some hmv specials and bought them from the local hi-fi emporium rather than waiting for an internet delivery. still worth it though.
