Mostly All Pros for me
Until Needledrops came along we had to rely on Word of Mouth, & Hifi Mag reviews & ratings. Opinions then were often ( well bloody frequently) more coloured than the systems themselves.
Now we have the opportunity of bookmarking something that suits our individual ears & pockets, or even just getting a general feel about a particular system's character.
It can cut both ways –I've been happily surprised by basic systems & disappointed in more expensive set ups, so I've been turned on as well as off.
Yes its not without pitfalls but its fun if you want it to be. As a learning process its invaluable – call it Distance Learning.
Davey W's cartridge sound files are a stand out example of the process at work. Much more valuable to me than any HI FI Magazine Cartridge review.
