In a world of pain
Between myself and other people in appropriate positions, there's a few features that with a little (or a lot, depending on the feature) time we might be able to offer to you all.

But do you want them? Here's what we can do:

1) Live chatroom. There's two ways this can work... Either on IRC/MSN or other similar instant messaging system, otherwise it might be possible to implement a vbchat system which will give a live chatroom right here in the forum software.

2) User system galleries. Due to server space/bandwidth issues there will be obvious limitations to this, but it's a possibility.

3) User articles/guides/how-tos. This is a little more involved. The end result would allow people to write up and publish their own articles and so on. A superb example would be Julian's speaker build diary. It would be possible to build a web-based form system that allows the creation of "proper" webpages for such a diary or guide or whatever. Or would people prefer to just use forum threads?

Please note that in the poll you can select more than one option.

Live chat is a great idea.

I also like the picture gallery, but only got to vote once lol

IRC gets my approval for live chat, but I realise for some a browser based system would be preferable.

A system galleries idea would be excellent, in the 'my kit' thread I've always been keen to see what peoples systems looked like, but trawling through pages of comments about kit people had posted made that very time consuming.

The user guides section I feel could be confined to the forum with a fair level of success :) though the ability to create proper web pages is appealing as well.

:)

irc://demon.uk.quakenet.org/%23zerogain would be nice, hint, hint ;)

Live chat would be good, I think an interweb based thing would be best as I don't want to have everyone on zerogain added to my MSN contacts list and I don't want to run IRC because if I am at a different computer it may not have that.

To be honest I like the idea of all of them!

Interesting results so far...

Let me put the question out there then... What do you NOT want to see? And before you all jump on, there will not be any pop-up ads, so no need to say so. Is anyone set against these new features being added?

Don't start adding room after room, if it were up to me there would be one room, everyone lumped in together. It used to be this was on the appe forums, many hundreds of people all jumping in on threads because there was no where else to go, very very busy and got busier.

You could call it 'We are in here!'

There is a serious and useful point in there. I think currently the number of forums is about right with reasonable activity. I've created the FAQ forum, but that's not expected to be a hugely busy one. No others are planned.

I'd like so see a picture gallery - even if its a link to an external site that hosts the pictures..??

not sure about a live chat tho...as I generally only access this site from work and I don't have that facility (I don't think) and I may lose out...!

Any cance of a -

Possibly a PC Room.
I know it's a HIFI Forum, but I thought it might be a nice Idea.

Anti Chat room view here

fwiw, I'm against the idea of a chat room. With the quick reply facility, I don't see that having a real time conversation within a thread is that much slower and with chat there is no record. I think you'll find a lot of really useful info that currently would be here for posterity in a thread, just disappearing into the ether.
