new TANNOY , new Brinkmann direct drive

hi nando - saw one I think on PFM or ZG. It's about the size of a westminster, but ported. ''as tall as a man'' basically.

there's also a pic in this months hifi world mag I saw in wh smiths today...

''prototype'' or new production model I don't know yet.

big bucks, for sure.

Are they the 'Kingdoms' if they are I heard them in Munich, don't raise your hopes!
Keith.

I think we have every right to get our hopes up; 1, to be able to afford a pair;-) and 2, Tannoy are still developing and refining the DC driver.
It's taken a while but they may have finally cottoned on to the benefits of a 3" comp driver using modern dome materials/production rather than the slightly MF compromised 2".
The demo wasn't really that good owing to some very dodgy display walls AFAIK.

The black plastic advertising hoardings surrounding the speakers didn't help, there must have been 15 Tannoy employees in that room, you would have thought one of them would have said something, despite the black plastic they are still extremely coloured, created for the Far East markets I suspect.
Keith.

Hi-Fi World reviewed the Brinkmann and loved it.
Mind you I think it costs north of £5k without arm and with a basic PSU.

The older Brinkmann TT is the best I've heard to date.
Heard it at Nick's (Jek) a few years ago and won't forget the experience.

Perhaps they are, but I've never seen you post anything positive about ANY Tannoy speaker but they obviously have their fans, like yours truly:). Each to their own I say.

Dev Hi, you had to hear that Tannoy room, that room probably cost Euros 20k for the week, to almost completely surround the speakers with resonant black plastic hoardings!
Tannoys are extremely coloured , I am not saying anything new there am I , but you get used to it I suppose.
Keith.

I think you'd have to try them at home to see.

Tannoy dual concetrics just should be horn loaded when 15".

As I understand it, this is actually a legal requirement in some countries.

chris, you can borrow "if you want"my modified 12"cheviot's that dev has at home,
nando.

The brinkmann in HFW is the bardo which sits somewhat below the Oasis that you have posted a link for. I haven't heard either.

Thanks rob! Its sounding even better these says - I don't use a preamp at all now and have a PT Dacapo II CDP and a modified PSAudio GCPH (both have inbuilt volume control) into a balanced switch. Tenson brought over his latest DEQ for a comparison a few days ago.

I am still searching for a phono that has a bass as good as the unit you brought along...
