Hi all, I'm new to hifi and here :)

So just want some advice on getting the right system pls.. I don't have any kind of system at all at the moment. Just a set of desktop speakers..

so I'm looking to spend about £500 to £800 on a full system, with av, amp etc, do i go for am AV package or buy them seperately pls?

Found one shop called superfi and another called audio affair, pretty much the same hi-fi they sell. any recommendations? thanks

I can't offer you specific advice on AV kit as that isn't my bag, but I'd point you at Richer Sounds for good value kit.
Check out the Cambridge Audio products which are usually well designed and perform well above their price points.
 
I see that this section of the forum does describe itself as 'HiFi and AV' - may I suggest that the AV descriptor is removed (and HiFi is changed to Hi-Fi).
 
Good point. The description goes back to the formation ZG.
However someone with experience of AV amps an processors might have some advice to give.
 
Well yes, they might - they didn't the last time someone asked something similar I seem to remember (could be wrong though). I just feel the AV tag rather misrepresents the forum as, in truth, there is no discussion of AV at all.

I think you will have to a bit more specific - are you talking about an AV system or one for music (or both)?
If AV, is that amplifier, DVD player, 5.1 speaker system (including centre speaker - presumably, you already have the TV or projector/screen? if music based, do you want CD, a record deck (arm and cartridge), tuner, amp, speakers, speaker stands, cables etc....?

As Rob has stated, Richer Sounds is probably (almost certainly) your best bet - I've had a look at the 'Audio Affair' link you have given and, to be honest, there isn't a lot that will fit into your budget. If you get the Onkyo speaker and AV amp combination, and one of the cheaper BR players, it will just come into budget (the speaker won't be much in terms of hi-fi though)

Ok guys, sorry for the late reply. I managed to get an av receiver from Richersounds... for £450... a few weeks gone by, I have now the budget to buy the speakers... any suggestions?

the av receiver i have is the Onkyo TX-8050
