just a note to all you DIY ers in the uk that from 1st April 2004 a new colour code for fixed electrical wiring will be introduced,
either the old or new colours maybe used , but not both .
Installations starting after 1 st April 2006 must be
    wired in the new colours.
The new colours (brown for live, blue for neutral ,brown grey and black for 3 phase ) are being introduced in the name of european harmony, and are infact a britsh idea.

Errrm, I thought we changed to the blue-neutral brown-live and green/yellow-earth standard some 30 years ago. It's certainly been that on virtually every plug I've rewired. Am I in a time warp or something????

edited to say - Missed the bit about fixed wiring. However I thought that would have changed at the same time as plug wiring
