Nick Drake: Fruit Tree Box Set

The wonder of Nick Drake is that enjoyment of his music is not system dependant. He is one of the very few artists that I can listen to even in the car and still be blown away.

Quite possibly the greatest singer/songwriter of all time imho.

Maybe you are guilty of listening to the system instead of the MUSIC, who knows?

Who cares? I don't even know what it is you are trying to say.

I am selling it because its dull, uninvolving, uninteresting -- a kind of self-consious twee English introspection in the most annoying way... Plus it sounds a lot like English folk and I hate that feckin cack.

OK, dont hold back, tell us what you really mean, and then why I should buy it :-)

Damn........aah well you win some you lose some. I have most of Drake on cd but would have loved a nice set of vinyl.

I'm still all enthralled by my new fangled record player lol.

Cheers anyways Fox.

"FRUIT TREE (Hannibal 1986)
Originally released as a box set containing all of Nick's original albums, and later expanded to include Time of No Reply, Fruit Tree is where to go if you want it all. With a comprehensive booklet containing a good essay on Nick, plus lyrics to all the albums, it was one of the first box sets released for any artist, and was mainly responsible for the revival of interest in Nick Drake when it was first released in 1979. If you want to immerse yourself in Nick's music, you could do a lot worse than start here."

Drake is great when you are in the mood for a little navel gazing for deffs..........makes me thing of rain and smelly leaves on dead squirrels though.

I thought the dvd was awsome. You lucky beggar gettin to see them in Londines. I managed to blag the Rune 10" box of stuff which is very rather good as well.

I'm with fox on this one. I used to have Fruit Tree on LP; listened to one or two of the LPs once, thought all the guys who praise it probably need an emergency delivery of Prozac Extra Strong, and eventually sold it. Why listen to this if you can spend your time listening to much less depressing music.

I have had this CD set for sometime and I go through phases of listening to it or the "way to blue" introduction to ND. It is not a great CD and at times you do feel that he has "cornered the market on depression" e.g. Black dog, but there are also some great songs , but for me the special thing about Nick Drake are his unique and somewhat obscure guitar tunings which illustrate how changing the tuning of a guitar can add real atmosphere , so if you are a guitarist or into that sort of thing try "way to blue" at £10 or less , and if you love it go for the whole fruit tree.

Well, I think Nick Drake is great, especially "Black Eyed Dog" and "From The Morning", which are profound and complex songs. There has been a lot of breathless drivel written about him though, no question.
