Well after a really crappy last hour at work I got home and thought I'd relax by chucking a cd on and crashing out on the bed for half an hour. Now for the last couple of weeks the hifi had been sounding the best its been in quite some time. It had been sounding so good in fact that I'd actually postponed the idea of upgrading the amp which had been a pet project of mine. All that changed a couple of nights ago though. The treble started going all nasle on me. There was no bass to speak off, and one side started to dominate more than the other. Then tonight it finally happened. One of the speakers gave out on me. Yep one speaker was there belting it out, and on the other nothing. So out of rising desperation and panic I checked all the cable connections. They were fine. So I swopped speakers over and sure enough one stayed silent the other worked fine.

So it looks like I'll have to contact the shop I bought them from (Movement Audio in poole) and see what they have to say. Given that they are "only" a pair of Mission 780's is it worth having them repaired or am I better off using this as an excuse to upgrade the speakers? Thing is I was actually quite happy with them as they suited my small room. Also any idea how much its likely to cost parts and labour to fix the thing?

Oh and on top of THAT my sky digibox is now packing in and my bikes got a flat rear tyre. I'm beginning to think that someone upstairs REALLY doesnt like me:( ;)

Cheers...

david,
that's 3 misfortunes so you should be safe now...
i don;t think the 780's would be worth repairing although if you are sentimentally attatched or seriously skint it may be worth looking into. this is a good excuse to indulge in some righteous upradeitis though.. i say go for it. mortgage your soul and go for some pro-ac response 1.2se's or some b&w matrix 805 sigs...

cheers

got to rush to work so will post properly later but.....

I posted about my 780s playing up and eventualy leading to needing the mid/bass driver replaced in one of them. Mine were second hand so thought the standard 5 year warranty wouldnt work. Yours (assuming they're the 2000+ model) will still be under warranty. I got straight in touch with mission rather than trying any dealers.

In the end had them collected and couriered to mission. Both speakers had the drivers changed. Then returned to my door. Bearing in mind this was without any reciepts of anything...... total cost = £0.00!!!

Got to rush

MO :D
